Update.

Its really not good. Its looking like I'm going to have to come home. I can't apply for a new passport whilst I'm in Ghana. A law which came into force last October states that I need to be a resident of the country that I'm applying for the passport in. I've looked into it and I don't think there's a way around it. The only way I can apply for another one legally is to go back home and sort it all out from there. I have my bike to think about too. Its only legally meant to be in the country for another eight days, so I'm going to have to go to customs on Monday and see what they say about storing my bike here in case I do decide to come back. Disastrous....

  1. liam, I'm sorry you're having a terrible time at the moment. I guess the journey is meant to have its challenging times to make it all worthwhile in the end. The only thing I guess you can control is the way you react to things. according to direct gov website you can apply for a passport from Ghana via post -

    1. Hi mate. Yeah I've looked into that but you actually have to be a British national living in Ghana for you to have a passport shipped out to you. You need to provide resident ID, proof of address ect, even your birth certificate! If this happened just over 5 months ago then I would have been able to get a new passport from the embassy here. Alas no. One way or another I do have to go back to England to get a new passport.

This is not the end of Liam and c90 though, no no no!

      I'm making alternative plans.

  2. really sorry to hear of your situation, how reliable is you motorcycle now, you have had bad luck with it.

If you do have to come home is it worth contacting Ed March and sourcing a 90 in good condition and get Ed to give it a good going over. at least that might give you confidence in your ride.

I have read other blogs where people have had to return to the UK and just used it as an interlude and then carried on with their trip

    1. Hi George. Amazing like my bike is running like a dream now that I banged a new engine into it. This is a far higher problem; one of government legislation and red tape. There's not much I can do.

The home interlude is looking like the way its going to have to be. I've thought long and hard about all the options that I can do and I think I'm coming up with something that will make me happy. I'll write down the details in a few days when I know for sure.

      Liam.
